ColorQuick: It’s About Time.

Pennsauken, NJ – (July 17, 2000) On August 28th, 2000, at the San Francisco Seybold Seminar, ColorQuick.com will unveil a business-to-business service designed for the printing and publishing market. This new service automates the pricing, order-entry and pre-press functions for general commercial print and publishing work. ColorQuick’s Internet-enabled workflow allows a printer or publisher to provide real time service, with less cost, and virtually no capital equipment.

Creating value for the client by using the Internet starts with making a print product easy to purchase. While not for every possible custom product, ColorQuick’s simple interface allows a print purchaser to quickly specify a product, get a price, and if acceptable, upload a PDF or Postscript file. In a few minutes, the client will receive  a pre-flight report and, half an hour later, a soft proof of the trapped print production file. This is not a template-based service, but will work with virtually any software that can produce postscript or PDF output.

“What sets ColorQuick apart from the competition is our ability to accept original documents and provide instant quoting and preflighting to ensure that the print process goes smoothly.” remarked Jeremy Herr, one of the system’s developers. “Many online print services focus on template-based work, which is not how most documents are created. Other on-line services accept job specs, only to have them wait in limbo until a human estimator can respond, so while the information is on-line, only a fraction of the human labor is reduced.” ColorQuick drastically reduces the time involved in the estimating and pre-press process because it is completely automated.

“ColorQuick is about workflow, great quality, responsive customer service, and saving time and money,” said Mark Weiss, the firm’s president. “Most printing projects are similar in nature, and, therefore, good candidates for automation. The key is to help customers decide which work is appropriate for automation tools, such as the ColorQuick Internet enabled workflow. By doing this, consistently high-quality work can be produced without the use of any direct labor.”

Focusing on a completely digital workflow, ColorQuick has devised an expert system that eliminates direct labor from the traditional estimating and pre-press functions. Currently operating only on process color work, the system will shortly be expanded to provide spot color services. The net effect of this is that work that now take two to three days to be processed by most conventional print shops, is completed in about a half an hour. This has major implications in terms of workflow, alteration and approval cycles, organization structure, and cost.

In order to perform these services in an uninterrupted chain, many computer systems and database tables must be perfectly coordinated. To keep it simple for end-client and printer, ColorQuick acts as an application service provider. The great speed of current computers allows them to process a huge amount of work. By providing this service to many printers, ColorQuick can spread the capital and overhead cost, thus reducing unit prices, so everyone benefits.

ColorQuick.com will be an exhibitor at the San Francisco Seybold Seminar, and may be found at booth # 2538. There, attendees will be able to use the ColorQuick system to produce custom print-ready files, which they can take back to their print shops and try.
